(born June 27, 1929,  in Chisinau, Rep. of Moldova)

Professor, doctor habilitate in physics and mathematics, member of Academy of Sciences of Moldova. Founder of the national scientific school in the field of II-VI semiconductors and heterostructures based on them.

State Prize Laureate (in the domain of science and technology), Merited Person (Om Emerit) of Moldova, decorated with the national orders “Honorary Badge”, “Work Glory”, with the medals “Civil Merit” and “Dimitrie Cantemir”.

Graduate of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of the State University of Moldova (1952) and of the doctorate (Ph.D.) of the State University of Moldova (1955).

He started his career as assistant, then senior lecturer, lecturer (1955-1967) and head of the Department of the Physics of Semiconductors at the State University of Moldova (1967-1995). During the more than 45 years of his teching career, he has developed and taught a series of normative and special courses, which formed the basis of the training of the young students in the field of Physics of Semiconductor Materials. Over 600 specialists in this domain were formed during his acting as Head of the Department. The members of the department staff supported 7 Dr.Sci. and over 50 Ph.D. theses in the same time. Under the direct advising of Professor A. Simaskevich were defended 25 Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

During the y. 1995-2000 he acted as coordinating academician of the Mathematical, Physical and Technical Sciences Section of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, chief of laboratory (2000-2001), deputy director (2001-2002) and interim director (2002-2005), director of the Materials Science Center (2005-2008) and the Scientific Consultant (since 2008) of the Institute of Applied Physics. Founder of the national school in the field of II-VI semiconductors and heterostructures based on them. He carried out complex investigations of the electrophysical properties of heterojunctions (different semiconductor junctions) based on the II-VI and III-V semiconductors compounds.

Author/coauthor of more than 600 scientific papers, including 5 monographs and 6 textbooks, 30 patents, 300 scientific articles.
